Without Strategy Life Will Swamp You

Would it be fair to compare a person to a business? Probably not, they are 2 fundamentally different things. However would it be fair to say that the forces affecting a person are the same or similar to those affecting business? Definitely

In today’s world terms like Globalisation, Market Forces, and Brand Image are thrown around in business and each has it’s own meaning and concept. What people don’t seem to realise is that the processes going on behind these words are also affecting people as much if not more than business.

Next time you’re out and about in a shopping centre, take a look around, WHO do you see? People from all different nations, different languages, different cultures. OK now take a look around at work, WHO do you see? my bet would be the same situation. Now take a look at your group of friends, whether they are around you or are an online community, again WHO do you see?

This is what I mean by Globalisation. More and more people are being given the freedom to move around as they please. We are in a world where countries are losing their boundaries, no longer can you classify a country by who lives there, people are dispersing which is creating a lot of interesting and challenging opportunities.

OK now imagine you are going for a job (or perhaps you really are). Who is out there competing for that exact same job? Where are they from? What skills (and I’m not necessarily talking qualifications here) do they have that you don’t? These are the market forces that you are up against, they can have a huge and direct impact on you. If you have no clue about all this, how do you ever hope to compete? Most of the time people hope to get lucky, most of the time this is going to cause them to crash and burn.

Brand Image. What do I mean by this? This is how others come to see you. It would be nice if we could all decide exactly how we wanted this to be, if you could wake up one day, define your brand image as “integrity” “honesty” and “smart working” and that was how everyone would see you. But truth is this is something you have to work on very hard and it’s also something that other people ARE working on and therefore your brand image has to be just that bit better if you want to succeed at your goals.

What does any of this have to do social anxiety? Good question. Personally I believe it begins with strategy.

What Is Strategy?

Most people seem to realise how strategy would affect the difference between a good business and a bad one. But what is it?

Strategy is a process. It is something you do that guides you successfully (or unsuccessfully) from point A to point B, with point B being that goal that you want to achieve, or that item you want to buy, or finding yourself very happy amongst a big group of friends. Strategy focuses on HOW you get what it is that you want. It helps you get the strongest brand image, it helps lower the competition of globalisation and market forces.

Doing some research on social phobias/anxieties/SAD it became very apparent that the reason I found a way out and most people stay stuck is that I had a strategy. Spending all day worrying about why you are in the position you are in and asking how you got there in the first place are useless pieces of information. The past is the past and there is nothing you can do to affect it. What matters is how you use the past as experience to guide you into a bright future.

The key to get out of the mind trap that keeps you socially scared is to create a strategy of change. Where is it that you want to be? How do you plan to get there? What tools/skills are you going to need to learn? these are some of the questions that you need to ask to start creating a good strategy.

The most important tool I came across in my own development was the 3D Mind. This tool allowed me to create changes in the fundamental ways that I interacted with life and changed the outcomes of every situation I went into, each time closer and closer to what I wanted.

If you are reading this thinking that it fits well as a description of what you are going through then you already know what not having a strategy is like. You know where it gets you and you know how life gets more overwhelming everyday. This is something that will continue unless you do something about it.

My advice is to sit down right now, start creating your own strategy, and then start breaking this down into small manageable chunks that you can work on everyday to get you out of the trap you are in, you know what it’s like to be there, I’m living proof this doesn’t need to be the case. If you are finding you are getting in your own way and sabotaging your attempts it’s time you learned the 3D Mind and got moving.
